Class Evaluation

There were many things that I liked in this class and enjoyed. One of the things I liked was how we got to share with our partner about topics when told. Another thing I enjoyed about this class how we got to share our experiences. Also I like when stories where shared to use and we got to reflect on what we saw and what we learned. Lastly something I like about this class was the chance to meet new people that I can call my friends.

Although there were many things I liked about this class there where also a few things I did not like. One the things I did not like we how we had to write a 10 sentence reflection when sometimes we were stumped and did not know what to say. Another thing I did not like was how we didn't get to move around a lot and were not able to be active. Beside those 2 things I enjoyed the experiences I had in this class.

Indeed I do have some recommendations to make this class better. What you can do is share more stories. Also you can tell us how the different things we do in class will help us in the future. Another thins that can be done is being able to move around more. Lastly something else that can be done is working with partners or groups on tasks.

Now I will share some of the highlights I have experienced in this class. A highlight I had was being introduced to the goals journal. Another highlight I had was being able to reflect off of the Student Success Statements. In addition a highlight I had was being able to learn the mistakes people have made before and being able to learn from them. Lastly a highlight was learning more computer skills I did not know before.

In my opinion I think I did the best I can do in this class. I was focused on finishing the task I was given with the certain requirements. Also I did my best to be focused when Mr. Haymore was talking. In addition I worked on my Goals Journal the most I could. So by being focused I was able to pass the class with a high grade and was able to learn knew skills.

As I stated before I worked on my life planning goal as much as I could. There reasons as to why I could not work on it at moments. Sometimes I fell asleep and forgot about it. Or there where times when I wasn't home and did not return until late and wasn't able to write in it. Whatever the reason was I fell accomplished that I tried my best.

After taking this class for one semester I am committed to being a CTR person. I learned that there are great outcomes for people who are a CTR person. I also learned that a CTR person never has to worry about getting in trouble. The main reason is because I say what people experienced when they weren't a CTR person.

Honesty you Better Believe It

In the video we saw it started with 2 girls taking a test. One of the two had asked the other one what was the answer on the test. So the girl thought about how the action would affect them both and decided not to cheat on the test. Then it showed a story about a class of pupils in medical school. The professor handed everyone a test and left the room. Within seconds students started to pull out cheat sheets. The student s that weren’t cheating knew it was wrong and wanted to say something but did not have the courage. Then a brave tall individual stood up and announced ‘I have moved away from my home town to come to medical school. I have crammed my family into a small apartment. So I will report anyone who cheats.’ Everyone stopped cheating. This action resulted into the highest number of graduates in the history of the school.

“When you Tell One Lie, it leads to Another.”
Paul Hatch
Reflection:
The quote tells us that when one lie is said then it is impossible to stop lying after that. It also tells us that to protect our truths we should just resort to not lying. An example of this is that you lie and say that you forget your homework at home and then become lazy and end up not doing your homework but come up with different lies to not having your homework. Another example if if you lie to your friends about anything then you have to keep coming up with lies to cover up the first lie. Also an example is if you lie to your parents and tell them you finished your chores. When you lie it not only affects you but the people around you also get hurt by your lies. Even though you tell a lie to defend someone it hurts them because they think that you can’t trust them enough to tell the truth. A lie that is told to your friend is taken as betrayal and they start to question all the the truths you have told them. It is important to tell the truth so there is no doubt in the truths you have told. Another form of lying is excuses because you are lying as to why you did not accomplish something. All problems can be prevented by telling the truth. Not only will you feel great by telling the truth but you will also feel good that you can not be accused of anything.

The Sting of the Scorpion

Once there was a child named Elder Patrick Kearon of the Seventy. Patrick lived in the Arabian Peninsula. His parents always told him to wear shoes, Patrick obeyed because he knew the danger out there such as scorpions and the cruel terrain. One day his family awoke from their camp and Patrick decided he wanted to go on an exploration. He thought that since it was going to be a short walk he would need to wear shoes and subsisted for sandals instead since they were sort of shoes. As Patrick started walking the area he felt a pain like a thorn going through his feet. As Patrick kicked away the sand he discovered that it was not a thorn but a scorpion. He squeezed his leg hoping that it would prevent the pain from going up any further. Wasting no time he cried out for his parents in pain. His parents ran to him and saw that he had gotten stung. They rushed him to the car and drove rapidly to the nearest hospital that was over 2 hours away. After getting treated by the doctor he felt no pain once 24 hours had passed. Patrick had wished that he wasn’t so lazy and rebellious earlier and could’ve prevented this. The sting of the scorpion shows us that if we don’t obey we could get stung and suffer the consequences.

“Always do right.”
Mark Twain
Reflection:
There times when we contemplate whether make the wrong decision or the right decision. However, no matter what situation you find yourself in you should always make the right decision. An example of this is that you can choose whether to go party or study for your test tomorrow, no matter how much you want to go party you should study because it will benefit your future. Another example is if your friend invites you hang out with his friends and you go to find out they smoke and offer you some, you should deny it and walk away. Lastly an example is if your friends ask you to ditch, you should decline and go to your class to receive your education. Even though the temptation to do the wrong is strong you should ignore it and make the right choices. When faced with a decision you should think about the pro and cons and decide. After all the decisions you decide to make will mainly affect you. By doing the right you will never have to worry about getting caught or in trouble. The most important thing you should do everyday in CTR.

“It’s better to be alone than to be in a bad company.”
Unknown

Bad Company                                               Alone
Reflection:
This quote is telling us that if you have a decision to choose studying over partying then you should study, even though it would mean you were by yourself. An example of this is that your friends invite you to a part where you know there will be drinking and you have to study for a test tomorrow, you should study because it will affect your grade. Another example is if you're offered a cigarette is is better to leave even though you would be by yourself. In addition an example is if you can choose to either hang out with a group of people that ditch school and are drug addicts then you should be alone and focus on your education. In the end if you hang around bad company then you will be harming yourself instead of having fun. On the other hand being by yourself is not a bad thing because you can focus on your education and receive good grades. By focusing on your education you are ensuring yourself a good future. Even though you might decide to hang around bad company it is never too late to change your mind. The place you are in does not matter as long as you are CTR. By CTR you can ensure that you are always in the right crowd.

Challenges Teens Face Today
  1. Some challenges teens face today:
  • Peer pressure
  • Bullying
  • Online predators
  • Drugs
  • Alcohol
  • Grades
  • Broken homes
  • Violence
2. Two major problems I face:
One major problem I face is drugs because in the community I live in it is not rare to see. I am trying to ignore my surroundings and focus on school. Another major problem I face is online predators because a s a young teen you don’t know who really is behind that profile on social media. Something I ma trying to do is not share personal information on social media.
3. How does CTR help:
One way CTR helps in because if you are always doing the right thing you never have to worry about any harm that might come towards you. Another CTR helps is by making sure you are helping [people so when you need help they will gladly help you. Lastly a way CTR helps is by knowing that you are doing the right thing when you tell an adult what is going on with you or your surroundings.
4. How to help teens:
Teens can be helped by giving them advice on what is either wrong or right for them. Teens can also be helped if you share stories of the wrong and right things that happened to you based on your actions. Another way to help teens is by informing an adult when something is wrong with them.

Reflection:

In my opinion the biggest challenge teens face today are online predators. The reason why I think it is the biggest issue is because our generation is based on electronics so we rely on them for most things. If we rely on our phones then we will use them often which means we are most likely on social media. On social media you really don’t know who you are interacting with since it is global and can have easy access. In order to fix this problem I believe that teens should not interact with anyone unless they know them personally.

  1. Can people trust me to do what’s right?
  2. Am I committed to doing my very best?
  3. Do I treat people the way I want to be treated?
“If the answers to these questions are YES, there is no way you can fail.”
Lou Holtz
Reflection:
This quote shows us that if we CTR then failure doesn’t exist. Failure doesn’t exist because you will have supports from people that will want you to succeed. The three questions you ask yourself are based on the way you treat people and what kind of person they see you as. An example of this is that  is people trust you then you will be able to gain a great job and earn a lot of money. Also if you are doing your very best then people will not judge you or set you up for failure. In addition if you treat people the way you want to be treated then you will never have to worry about people trying to sabotage you or cause you harm. Also if people trust you then you will be able to count on them when you need something. Then if you are doing your best you will never get a bad grade or lose anything. Lastly if you treat people the way you want to be treated then you will never have to worry about finding help when in a situation. On the other hand if you show CTR 24/7 you will never have to worry and will always succeed in what you want to do.

Student Success Statement
“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity. Intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy and strong.”
President John F. Kennedy
Reflection:
The quote is telling us that if we want to success and do things properly then we need to make sure our bodies are maintained properly. If we don’t take care of our own bodies how can we expect to do great in everything and succeed perfectly. Something that you can do to make sure you take care of your body is make a commitment to not do drugs or alcohol, they just harm your body and hard to escape from. Also something you can do to make sure your body is fit it making sure that you get enough exercise to maintain your body.In addition you can maintain a healthy body by eating less junk food and focusing on getting enough fruits and vegetables. Another thing everyone struggles with to maintain their body is making sure you receive the right amount of sleeping ours. Something you can also stay away from to maintain a healthy body is cigarettes. By doing these things you are making sure that you are doing your best on everything. It also important to commit to being a CTR person. By becoming a CTR person you are sure that you are also doing the right and never have to worry.

“Kindness is the essence of greatness.”
Joseph B. Wirthlin
Reflection:
This quote is giving us the key to greatness. In order to achieve greatness you need to be kind and show kindness to everyone around you. For example if you want to get good grades on the report card you need to show kindness to you teachers and show them you care. Another example is if you want to be known as a respected person you need to be kind to everyone and show them that you are a good person. Wherever you go kindness is always going to be needed in order to achieve greatness.

Thanksgiving Weekend
My thanksgiving weekend was full of smiles and laughter. On Monday I hung out with my friends all day and we were having fun. Finally when the night came to an end I ended up sleeping over at my friend's house and we stayed up late. The rest of my week was uneventful except for hanging out with my friends and family. The when thanksgiving came we ended up going over to my aunt’s house. While we were waiting for the food to finish my our family was talking and laughing. When the food was done we helped to take it out to the table. Everyone at until they couldn’t eat anymore. We all ended up having full stomachs to the point where we had bloated bellies. Then it was Black Friday, me and my little brother had went to Target but didn’t bvy anything. After  that Saturday came along and we took that time to do homework but got distracted and started procrastinating. In the end I only finished half of my English homework leaving me to do it on Sunday. Since the Monday before my group had planned to go to Chuckie Cheese and the day had finally come that we were able to go. At 1 we headed there but sadly found out that you needed an adult to enter, which crushed  our dreams. So we just wandered around heading to Shakey’s instead. At the end of the night all of us were glad that we had decided to head there instead. We now have memories that none of us will ever forget.

“Manners maketh man.”
William Wykeham
Reflection:
This quote tells us that our manners make us who we are and how we act. It tells us that if we have good manners then we will know as a good person. On the other hand if we have bad manners then we will act rebellious and be know as a bad person.  An example of having good manners is saying please and thank you, which will make you into a person that has respect for other people. Another example of having good manners is cleaning up for yourself by doing this you will be organized and be a clean person. On the other hand an example of having bad manners is leaving a mess once you are going to leave by doing this you are showing that you are a messy and irresponsible person. Also an example of having bad manners is using things without permission ,when you do this you show that you don’t have respect for other people’s property. It isn’t always your fault that you act the way you do because our parents raise us the way they want to raise us. When parents raise you with good manners then you are going to be a good person but if your parents decide to raise you without manner fs and respect then that is the way you're going to live. Manners are important because they show that you are polite and know how to be responsible. After all wouldn’tg you be more comfortable hiring someone with manners?

“If it is not right, do not do it; if it is not true, do not say it.”
Marcus Aurelius
Reflection:
This statement is telling us to not cause bad things to happen if they are bad. For example if your friend told you to tell the teacher that one of your peer cheated on the test but you know it is a lie then do not say it. Another example is you wanting to really get something from the store but can’t buy it and your mind is telling you to steal it then do not do it because you know that stealing is wrong. Also an example would be you wanting to say that your sibling hit you so they can get in trouble, do not say it because you know that it is not true. Lastly an example would be wanting to break something and blame someone else, you should not do it because you know the person is innocent so it would be wrong. This quote is a way of leading yourself to be a good person and choosing the right decisions. On the other hand if you are a CTR person then you do not have to worry about making the right decisions. In the end you should know your right from wrong and be able to choose the right no matter how much temptation wants you to do the wrong thing. When you know your action is bad then you should not do it because every bad action you do leads to a repercussion. Striving to always CTR is  a good way to lead a great life.
Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving first started when the pilgrims invited local  Native Americans to share a meal with them. Something new I found out was that Thanksgiving didn’t become an annual holiday until 200 years after that first meal. That first meal was a 3 day festival celebrating the pilgrims first successful harvest. Pilgrims killed 5 deer a presents for the colonists. Another interesting fact I learned was that there was no turkey or potatoes present in the first meal. The celebration was not repeated until years later. Our president at the time ,George Washington, announced the first ever Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday November 26th, 1789. However Thanksgiving did not become a National Holiday until the 19th century. Sara Josepha Hale started a 30 year position to make Thanksgiving a National Holiday. She also published recipes for pumpkin pie, stuffing, mashed potatoes, turkey, and cranberry sauce. President Abraham Lincoln announced during the Civil War that Thanksgiving would be celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November. It was George H.W Bush who stated that there would be a pardon turkey every November.

“Doing what is right, fair, and honorable is more important than winning or losing.’’
Chick Moorman
Refection:
This statement means that when you are doing any action loosing or winning is not important but what is important is make sure that it is the right thing to do. For example, you can be taking a test and it doesn’t matter if you get a good score or bad score as long as you took it fairly. Another example is that you can be competing in a race but without caring is you win or lose as long as you played fairly. No matter what you are competing in you should always make sure you aref CTR. Even if you really want to win something you should not CTW to do it. If you CTR you should never worry that you could get in trouble or get caught. .

“Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anybody expects of you. Never excuse yourself.”
Henry Ward Beecher
Reflection:
This quote means that you are responsible for everything you do. It also tells us that you should never come up with an excuse as to why you did or did not do something. An example of you being responsible for everything you do is when you break something admitting you broke it and not blaming anyone else. Also an example for not coming up with excuses is not doing your homework and saying that you didn’t do it because you didn’t understand the work or that there was no time to finish it. If you become responsible for everything you do then you will learn not to do bad things because you will face the consequences. When you are responsible for everything you do you gain trust which will help you in life. By coming up with excuses for yourself then you learn not to do things and there will always be a reason why. If you come up with excuses then you will go backwards in life and not achieve everything that can be yours. In life you should always aim for going forward and not backwards. CTR can help you make sure that harm will never come your way and you will always receive opportunities.
Veterans Day
What is veterans day?
Veterans day is celebrated to honor the end of World War 1 and to honor the veterans and victims of the war.
When is it?
Veterans day is celebrated on November 11.
What is the purpose?
The purpose is to honor those who were harmed in the war, either physically or emotionally.
Why is it important to show honor?
It is important because people fought to keep our ancestors safe and without them we may not be alive today.
List several ways to show honor and respect on Veterans Day.
  • Saying thank you
  • Placing flowers/flags on the grave of a veteran
  • Making a donation to the USO
  • Wearing a yellow ribbon
An interesting fact about veterans day is that from 1971 to 1977 Veterans Day was celebrated on the fourth Monday of October.
Reflection:

I feel that celebrating Veterans Day is a great idea because people risked their lives and fought for our ancestors and without them we wouldn’t be alive today. People who fought in the war didn’t know they were going to make it out alive yet still went for our protection. It is great to celebrate it because many people died in the war or are family so it affects both. I feel that the people who were in the war were brave people and deserve to be remembered and celebrated. I think everyone should do something to help living veterans because they already struggled and shouldn’t have to be afraid that they can’t pay rent or afford food. All veterans should be honored and respected because they fought to keep us safe without worrying about their lives first. We should take time to honor the veterans because they have done so much for us and should get a thank you at the least. So that is why I think celebrating veterans day is a good idea.

“These are the 3 magic keys to living your life with integrity:
  1. Have the courage to say no.
  2. Have the courage to face the truth.
  3. Do the right things because it is right.”
W. Clement Stone
Reflection:

This quote is telling you the 3 things to do in order to have integrity in your life. First, is to have courage to say no which means knowing what is right and wrong and choosing to do the right and not wrong. Second, is to have courage to face the truth which means that you choose the right over wrong and it doesn’t matter how many people stand with you. Third, is to do the right thing because it is right which means that you are doing the right without expecting a reward in the end. An example for the first one is declining a cigarette if one of your friends were to offer one because you know it is bad. Also an example for the second one is stating that you broke something and not blaming it on anyone else or anything. Lastly and example for the third one is choosing to pick something up when dropped on the floor without expecting to keep it or get rewarded. If you have the three keys in your life ten you will live a happy life full of obedience. On the other hand if you choose to disobey then you will have consequences and will live a life without integrity. If you choose the right you will never have to worry about living a life full of integrity.
