Valentine’s Day is a holiday that is celebrated on February 14th where people send gifts to their loved one.. Valentine's Day is a holiday that is celebrated in the name of St. Valentine.This holiday has mixed traditions that Christian and from Ancient rome.There are many stories about how Valentine’s came to be. One story took place in the third century at rome there was a Emperor by the of Claudius who thought that men who were single were better as soldiers since they didn’t have a wife or family. Then he forbid for young men to get married. There was a priest by the name of Valentine who thought that this was an injustice so he continued to allow marriages. Once Claudius found out about Valentine’s actions he sent him to death. Another story states that Valentine was sent to death because he helped prisoners escape from prisons where they were beaten and tortured. A myth stated that Valentine sent the first Valentine gift to a young woman he fell in love with that visited him in prison. The myth also state that before his death Valentine sent a letter to his loved that was signed as” from your Valentine”. Even though there are many stories all of them claim that Valentine was a heroic and romantic individual. Many people believe that Valentien has different celebrations such as the celebration of Valentine's death or that it is a holiday where you feast and celebrate a Christian holiday called Lupercalia. However in the 5th century Pope Gelasius stated that Valentine’s Day was to be celebrated on the 14th of february. Pope Gelasius also stated that it was not a Christian holiday after all and that it would be a day for romance. The oldest poem is one from 1415 by a man Charles, Duke of Orleans. Charles wrote this poem for his wife that was imprisoned in a tower during the Battle of Agincourt.
